Careers Institute sees collaboration as essential to meeting
the educational and leadership development needs of Maryland youth
for the 21st century. HCI is committed to working closely with parents,
government, business and industry, educational institutions, and
individuals concerned with the well-being of disadvantaged youth
and to make meaningful contributions to Maryland's many diverse
communities.
Decreasing resources and the growing need for creative partnerships
has compelled institutions to reach beyond their own doors. HCI
works in collaboration with its partners to develop strategic and
systematic approaches to improving education outcomes and in developing
leadership opportunities for youth throughout the State of Maryland.
These partnerships have also helped HCI to enhance the nature and
quality of service provided. Some of these partnerships have been
created formally, through articulation agreements, while others
are more informal. Moreover, HCI partnerships have been flexible
and tailored to meet the specific needs of youth and community.
For the past two (2) years, HCI has worked to develop several partnerships;
characteristics of these collaboratives include:
Promoting youth leadership development and expanding mentoring
opportunities for students and professionals;
Promoting school success and post secondary education;
Encouraging school reform and community school family partnerships;
Engaging citizen participation in public policy, and education
issues;
Building community capacity and providing technical assistance;
Promoting cultural awareness, civil society, international
understanding and peace;
Increasing knowledge about math and sciences education;
Promoting the psychological and physiological well being
of the disadvantaged youth population's by working towards the creation
of healthier communities;
Bringing public attention to the needs of senior citizens
and individuals with disabilities; and
Promoting entrepreneurial development
This page was developed to inform the reader about collaborative
efforts in education and in creating healthier and stronger communities.
While this compilation is not inclusive of all of HCI's collaborative
efforts, it is designed to give the reader an indication of the
